Charles C. Shoemaker, 99, died Saturday, December 28, 2019. He was born July 7, 1920 in Montgomery County to Elmer Newton and Mary Belle Hudson Shoemaker Sr.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Virginia Moore Shoemaker. He was a builder, developer in Springs, Old Field and Garden Springs Subdivisions. Charles joined the Army in 1943 when he came he opened up Nu-Way Cleaners with his sister Mildred and brother-in-law, Herbert Orme in addition to White Dot Restaurant. Charles and his brother, Elmer Newton Shoemaker Jr. opened S and S Window and Awning Company. He helped to developed Camp McKee and Sid Caulk Lake. In addition to his business ventures he was involved in civic activities Red Cross and Kiwanis Club, along with being and artist.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia Louise Shoemaker; two step sons, Glenn Patrick Hamilton and Winston Scott Hamilton (Tonya); three grandchildren, Dakota Patrick Hamilton, Kassandra Dawn Hamilton and Dillon Lewis Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he is preceded in death by, one brother, Elmer Newton Shoemaker Jr.; four sisters, Mary Margaret Powell, Mildred Mae Orme, Laura Lee Yalton and Anna Kathryn Faulkner; and a niece Bette Reed.

Funeral service will be 2 pm, Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Curtis and Rev. Glenn Hamilton officiating, burial following at Machpelah Cemetery. Visitation will be 11-2 PM at Taul Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers will be Roger Hart, Dillon Hamilton, Harold Smith, John Hartgrove, Tony Hartgrove and Tom Orme. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Hughes, Hyla Hughes, Donnie Henderson, Judy Henderson, Archie Otis, Charles Vice, Moon Cassidy and Woodrow Spencer.
