Della Ray Moore Shrout, formerly of Mt. Sterling, died peacefully on June 15, 2025 in hospice care in Edgewood, Kentucky following a period of declining health. She was born July 30, 1929 in Sharpsburg to the late Clarence and Roxie Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 70 years, Bill Jackson Shrout.
She and Bill moved several times during his department store career living in Mt. Sterling, Maysville; Columbus and New Philadelphia, Ohio and Monroe, Michigan. She saw each move as an adventure and opportunity to make a home for her family in each new location where she engaged in church and other volunteer activities. The couple retired to Mt. Sterling in 1992 where she helped take care of her parents.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Sterling where she served as an elder. She served on various church committees throughout her life and was a member of homemakers.
She was such an active and engaged volunteer in the Monroe Michigan City Schools that she was hired as a teacher's aide for fifteen years.
She was a volunteer for numerous charitable organizations while living in Ohio and Michigan in addition at Mary Chiles and St. Joseph Hospitals, Mt. Sterling for 15 years.
Her children and grandchildren were the absolute loves of her life. She is survived by her sons Thomas (Cheryl), Aurora, OH and Timothy (Brenda), Union, KY. She adored her grandchildren Andrew (Colleen), Aurora; and Benjamin (Ashley) of Union and Elizabeth, of Cold Spring, KY (her fiancé Taran Stephenson); great grandsons Conor-Thomas, Adam and Drew, of Aurora; and Jackson, of Union. She is further survived by her brother Ewell (Frances) Moore, Mt. Sterling; sisters Beulah Hart, Sharpsburg; and Junie Black, Washington state; plus nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Betty Hegler.
Visitation, Friday, June 20 at 10 AM followed by 11 AM service at Taul Funeral Home. The Rev. Jennifer Powell officiating. Burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
