Obituary

Evelyn Burns Shrout Sorrell 92, wife of Roy Sorrell passed into her heavenly home on November 14, 2025. She was born on July 11, 1933, the daughter of John Edward Shrout and Gladys West Shrout.

Her life was full, raising three sons on the Spencer Pike into successful separate careers in education, broadcast communications and finance.

While her husband, Roy Sorrell was on his many military deployments and assignments, she was the Master Sergent of the family.

She was a long time Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America, library assistant at Davenport High school in Iowa and worked for the Mt. Sterling Water and Sewer System.

After she retired, she and Roy spent many wonderful days travelling in their RV around the United States.

She was a long-time member of Antioch Christian Church, Ladies Aide Society and Senior Saints.

She loved hosting her church family for brunches, dinners and pool parties.

Family dinners were always special even more so around the holidays when her chocolate pie was always as she would say "Not very good," but no leftovers were found at the end of the day. Her Court Day vegetable soup was a family tradition as well as the marathon Rook games that will be sorely missed.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one son Thomas Gatewood Sorrell (Margaret) and by her siblings Roberta Shrout Patterson, Mary Louise Shrout Eads and Ruth Anne Shrout Gullet, Charles Edward Shrout and John Robert Shrout.

Leaving behind to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 75 years, Roy Sorrell, her sons, Brad Sorrell (Dana) of Mayslick, David Sorrell (Susan) of Lexington.

She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, Mike Eads of Austin, Tx. Marianne Eads (John) Turner of Knox City Tx. Connie Eads Bogard, Ft. Worth, Tx. Billy (Wanda) Ballard of Winchester and Janie Ballard (Wendell) Rose, of Winchester and Connie Sorrell (Mark) Prather of Cynthiana, along with her nine grandchildren whom she adored: Debryn (Bobby) Boyd, Ashley Sorrell(Brandon Flinchum), Joanna Sorrell, Darcy Sorrell, Thomas Calvin Sorrell(Megan), Lisa (Joel) Gronberg, Carolyn Pippen, Brian (Daphne) Gregory and Erin (Kenny) Stewart, along with 11 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Taul Funeral Homes in Mt. Sterling, KY on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 beginning with visitation at 10:30 am. Internment at Machpelah Cemetery will be held at a later date at the discretion of the family.

The Family would like to thank the Montgomery Co. Mt. Sterling EMS, St. Joseph Hospital Mt. Sterling, The staff of Sterling Meadows Assisted Living, Windsor Care Nursing Home and Windsor Care Memory Center for their support during our mother's illness.
