George Washington Garrett was born on June 7, 1922 to the late Jefferson Davis Garrett and Annie Mae Garrett in Camargo, KY. George departed peacefully from this life on Sunday, October 9, 2022.
George was one of 3 children born to Jefferson and Annie. He enjoyed meeting people. He was a social butterfly who loved people and never met a stranger.
George once said the best experience in his life was when he accepted Christ in 1947. He was a faithful member of Keas Tabernacle CME Church in Mt. Sterling, KY. George graduated from Montgomery County High in1942. After graduation, he went to school in Vine Grove, KY where he learned to do electrical work. He then moved to Dayton, Ohio where he attended Wilberforce University for a short time. George began working at Wright-Patterson before entering the United States Army. He was a veteran who served overseas in World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1945 and earned five bronze stars for his efforts. After leaving the military, George went to work for C&O Railroad where he later retired. He also served as a sexton at First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Darnell Garrett, sister Mable Norris, brother Sterling Garrett and beloved nieces, Georgia Gay, Carrie Davis and Dorothy Coleman.
He leaves to cherish his nephews, Harry Norris, Jr.( Brenda), Derwood Norris, Wilbert Norris (Rhonda), niece, Terrie Curry (Richard), Elsie Mitchell, Joan Farmer (Mike) and a host of other family and friends.
George was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Vincent Farris officiating, burial following at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10-11 AM, Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel.
