Obituary

Harold Lewis Greene, age 91, died June 26, 2023 at his home.  He was born August 20th, 1931 in the Mary Chiles Hospital in Mt Sterling, Ky.  He is survived by:  three children, Lauray (Laurie) Greene (Brad) Lybarger, Katherine (Kate) Howell Greene (Mitchell) Zolman, and Annette O'Rear Greene (Mark) Ison; four grandchildren, Laura Katherine Zolman, Nicholas Farrell Zolman, Alexander Joseph Ison, and Benjamin Mark Ison; a sister in law, Margaret Greene and a brother in law, Robert Winn (Diane) Prewitt .  He was predeceased by:  his wife, Katherine Prewitt Greene; parents, Harold Crail Greene and Catherine Howell Greene; brothers, Howard Berkley (Margaret) Greene and David Howell Greene; sister-in-law, Hazel Jones Greene; brother-in-law, Henry Reid Prewitt III; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Prewitt.  He is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews:  Emily Catherine Greene Branscum, Henry Reid Prewitt IV, Allen James Prewitt, Robert Winn Prewitt II, Barbara Prewitt Scepura, MaryAnn Greene Lopez, Mary Beth Prewitt Vann, and Kathleen Greene Henrickson; and several great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Greene was a lifetime resident of Montgomery County, graduated from Mt. Sterling High School in 1949, and the University of Kentucky in 1953. He received an ROTC commission from UK, served 4 plus years active duty in the Air Force and returned to Mt. Sterling to engage in the Property and Casualty Insurance Agency business until retirement in 1996.  He remained in the Air Force Reserve and retired after 20 plus years of service.  Mr. Greene was a member of the Presbyterian Church, interested in and active in many things including the Montgomery Co Historical Society, Kiwanis, the Old Trojans, and he was a former Board Member of the following organizations:  Mt Sterling City Schools Board of Education, the Mt Sterling Water and Sewer Commission, the Mary Chiles Hospital, the Kentucky Association of Independent Insurance Agents, and the Traditional Bank.

A visitation will be held 5-7 PM, Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Taul Funeral Home.  A private burial will be held at a later date for immediate family only.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Presbyterian Church of Mt. Sterling or the Montgomery County Historical Society.
