Obituary

Henry Cleatus Shrout born April 14,1927 in Mariba, KY to Maggie (Barker) and William Shrout. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Bethel Shrout; son Mark Shrout; daughters Barbara Fischer and Patricia Sparks; granddaughter Holly Sparks; step-son William Higgins; sisters, Josephine Hatton and Ruby Eldridge; brothers, Jimmy Shrout, Lloyd Shrout and Charles Wilson.

He is survived by daughters Linda (Steve) McKinley, Wanda (Dale) Holt; daughter-in-law Beth Shrout; step-children, Richard (Janet) Higgins, Michael (Mary) Higgins, Betty Randolph, Debbie Moore, Linda (Daniel) Ballentine; grandchildren Craig (Cara) McKinley, Dawn (Jeremy) Taylor, Vicki (Mike) McAdams, Brent Burpee, Jason (Nicky) Holt, Ruth (Eric) James, Heather (Brad) Wagner, Carrie (Dan) Funk, Jeremy (Sarah) Sparks, Laura and Joey Higgins, Angie (Michael) Clark, Melinda (Steve) Adkins, Paul (Candace) Dixon; great-grandchildren Duncan, Breeanne, and Caleb McKinley; Daniel, Timothy, Anthony and Logan Taylor; Cassie Vandermeir, Gabriel McAdams and John Burpee; Zoey, Josephine and Lily Holt; Jordan, Hailee and Riley Wagner; Madison, Brandon, Megan and Morgan Funk; Isabelle, Kinsley and Brayden Sparks; Belinda Jordan; Zachary and Tyler Dixon; Brandon Huffman; great-great-grandchildren Benjamin, Aiden, Colton and Allison Vandermeir; Raine and Alaina Wagner.

Cleatus was born in Menifee County and settled in Dayton, Ohio after returning to the States after serving in the Army during WWII.  He worked at the Inland Division of General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1977. Upon retiring, he returned to Menifee County and resided here for the past 44 years. He worked his farm and raised cattle.  He loved his dogs and cats and watching birds at the bird feeder. He loved his Lord and Savior.  He enjoyed walking on his farm and communing with God in the beauty that He created.  He has been active in Bethel Baptist Church.  He was a loving, dedicated father and grandfather.  He loved the Lord and raised his children to serve the Lord.  His children and grandchildren feel blessed to have him in their lives.

A service will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Bethel Baptist Church in Frenchburg with Rev. Tim Rhodes and Rev. Buddy Rhodes officiating burial following at Helton Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 6-8 PM, Monday, July 12, 2021 at Bethel Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Steve McKinley, Craig McKinley, Duncan McKinley, Daniel Taylor, Timothy Taylor, Brent Burpee, Dale Holt and Eric James.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Taylor, Jason Holt, Caleb McKinley, Anthony Taylor and Logan Taylor.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, St. Claire Hospice, Menifee County Animal Shelter, or WLJC.
