Obituary

Howard Lloyd Latimer, age 86, of Mt. Sterling, KY, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025.

He was born on December 11, 1938, in Conway, Missouri, to the late Howard and Iris Latimer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law Kenny Sargent, and three brothers, Paul, Bill, and Rick Latimer.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 67 years, Judy Alexander Latimer, daughter Janet Sargent (Johnnie Dicken), sons Jay (Angie), and Jim (Vicki), grandchildren Renee' Spencer (Caleb), Lindsay Latimer (Jason Jackson), Chas Sargent (Julissa), Alicia Latimer, Elizabeth Latimer (Mike O'Regan), Dana Latimer, Emily Latimer, Jacob Latimer, and Alex Latimer, and great-grandchildren, Hallie, Connor, Hagen, Michael, Lydia, Emery Kate, Benjamin, Henry, and Charlotte. He is also survived by sisters Mary Bowman, June Dailey, Helen Swindler, and Carolyn Kelly, all of Missouri, and many nieces and nephews.

Known to his family and friends as Judge, he had a passion for basketball and would stay after school most days to play in his school's gym. Later, his passion grew into a love for UK Basketball. After attending Baptist Bible College, he was called to Louisville, KY in 1972 to minister, then to Mt. Sterling in 1973 where he built Emmanuel Baptist Church, and served as the pastor there for over 50 years.

He was a dedicated pastor who loved his church and congregation, and he cherished his role as husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was delighted by his great-grandchildren, and, incredibly proud of his family, and a humble servant of Jesus Christ.

Funeral Services will 1 PM, Friday, January 3, 2025 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Chas Sargent officiating, with burial following at Crown Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 11 AM-1 PM, Friday, January 3, 2025 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Latimer, Alex Latimer, Connor Spencer, Caleb Spencer, and Jason Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael and Benjamin Coleman, Henry Sargent, and members of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Missionary Fund.
