Irvel Jones Jr. "Cigar", 93, of Mt. Sterling passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at St. Joseph Mt. Sterling. He was born December 24, 1927 the son of late Irvel Jones, Sr. and Jesse Marie Lantern Jones. He was a member of Howards Mill Church of God, a WWII and Korean Veteran and a member of VFW-Millersburg.
He was retired law enforcement having worked for the Mt. Sterling Police Department and Bourbon County Sheriff Department. He loved playing pool and smoking his cigars. He was fondly called "Cigar" by some of his friends. He was a simple hardworking man of few words. A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by one son, John Thomas Jones (Teresa) of Mt. Sterling, KY; two daughters, Irvaleen Fugate (Jamie) and Hildreth Linville (Dan) both of Mt. Sterling, KY; one sister, Doris Fitch of Mt. Sterling, KY; five grandsons, Brandon Hatfield, Matthew Jones, John Irvel Jones (Karrah Barnes), Colton Craig all of Mt. Sterling, KY and Justin Turley of Lexington, KY; two granddaughters, Carmen Fugate and Tiffany Powell both of Mt. Sterling, KY; five great grandchildren, Mackenzey Lyman, Cole Lyman, Elizabeth Lyman, Emma Lyman all of Mt. Sterling, KY and Bridgette Turley of Lexington, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Rose Elizabeth Edwards Jones; one brother, Bob Jones; three sisters, Betty Jones, Ruby Clay McNalley and Gladys Jones; and two grandson, John T. Jones Jr. and Joshua Lyman.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM, Monday, August 2, 2021 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Campbell officiating, burial following North Middletown Cemetery. A visitation will be held 5-8 PM, Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Martin, Jeff Gray, John Irvel Jones, Justin Turley, Brandon Hatfield and Jay Gentry. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Howard, Harvey Parker II, George Garrett, Charles Skaggs, Do Howard and Hubert Manley.
