James "Jim" Lawrence Downs, 86, of Frenchburg passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at St. Claire Hospital.  He was born February 24, 1937 in Menifee County, KY to the late Everett and Gladys Wilhoit Downs.  He was a member of Antioch Christian Church and retired after 40 plus years from Walker Company as a Truck Driver.  He loved to hunt, enjoyed yard work, truck driving and spending time with family.
He is survived by his dedicated wife of 57 years, Shirley Ballard Downs of Frenchburg, KY; his namesake, son, James "Jimmy" Lawrence Downs II of Mt. Sterling, KY; beloved daughter, Jennifer Roberts (Mark) of Frenchburg, KY; brothers, Donald "Bud" Downs (Irene) of Jeffersonville, KY; Darvin Downs of Jeffersonville; a sister, Elizabeth Neace of Dayton, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Dorsey Downs and William Downs; and a sister, Alma Roberts.

Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Monday, January 8, 2024 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel Frenchburg with Jason Toller officiating, burial following at Sutton Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 11 AM-1 PM, Monday, January 8, 2024 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel Frenchburg.  Pallbearers will be Josh Brown, Dewey Jones, Barrett Kegley, Lovell Stevens, Jerry Welch and Stacy Wilhoit.  Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Amburgey, Donnie Ballard, Frank Birchwell, Ashley Clark, Darvin Downs, Bud Downs, Bill Patton, Mark Roberts, Elizabeth Neace, John Parker, Stephen Smallwood and Hershell Slone.
