James Walker, 62, of Brunswick, Georgia, formerly Mount Sterling, KY, died Saturday October 30 th , 2021.
Born September 11 th 1959 in France to military parents, he was the son of the late Donald and Cynthia Walker. Sargent First Class (Retired) James Walker was proud to have served his country in the United States Army from 1979 to 2003. He served both in the regular Army and in the full time Army National guard as an Infantryman.
Awards and Decorations include: Expert Infantryman badge (EIB), Expert Rifle Badge, Parachutist badge, Drill Sargent Identification badge, Army Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good conduct medal, National Defense Service medal, State of Florida Commendation Medal, Florida Meritorious Medal, Florida Service Ribbon, and the Florida State Active Duty Ribbon.
SFC (ret.) Walker served at Fort Bragg, NC, Germany (Twice), Fort Jackson, SC, Sarasota, FL, and Bradenton, FL. He served in combat in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm with the 1 st Armored Division.
Upon retirement, SFC (ret.) Walker served as an Army Instructor of the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) at Corbin high school, in Corbin, KY and Montgomery County High School, in Mount Sterling, KY. While an instructor at the high school level he touched the lives of many young people and helped them to succeed in life. Many of his cadets are now serving their country in the armed services. Upon retirement from JROTC, SFC Walker received the Ft. Knox Commanders' Public Service Award for his distinguished service to our nation.
His hobbies included old vehicle restoration, hiking in the outdoors, and World War II reenactments. He loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include, his wife Brenda Hudson Walker, a son, Christopher James Walker of Parrish, Florida, and a daughter, Kayla Elizabeth Walker of Brunswick, Georgia. He will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
