Obituary

James David Whitton of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025.  Born on December 21, 1960, in Morehead, Kentucky, he was a member of the Church of God.  David was a truck driver until his accident in October 1999.  Survived by his loving wife of forty-two years, Darlene Smith Whitton, they have two children: Jenn Whitton of Winchester, Kentucky, and Jeffrey (Mia) Whitton of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. One grandson, Lincoln David Whitton of Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  His brother and sister-in-law, Josh & Tami Adkins as well as his nephew Christopher (Ashley) Adkins.  His close friends: Donnie & Edie Shields, Barry & Kathy Mayfield, Renee Rhodes & family, Larry Stamper, Kim & Connie McCrary, Kevin & Gayle Baker Knepper, Jessie & Kenny Randolph, Bo Scott, and Lisa Weaver.  Many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.  Whitton is preceded in death by his parents: James Vernon & Laura Mae Warren Whitton, Father-in-Law: Harold Clay Smith, Granny: Frances Edmundson, his pastor: Stanley Hutchinson, and his best friend & caregiver: Henry Redmond.

A memorial service will be held 1 PM, Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Alan Hutchinson officiating.  Visitation will be held 11 AM-1 PM, Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, Whitton has requested that donations be made to his grandson's school. Checks may be made payable to St. James Catholic School.  Please include IN MEMORY OF DAVID WHITTON on the memo line.  Envelopes will be available at the service but can be mailed directly to the school: St. James Catholic School, 401 Robinbrooke Blvd., Elizabethtown, Kentucky, 42701.
