Joseph Sherman "Buddy" Rhodes, Jr., 93, died peacefully at home Monday, November 6, 2023.
Born March 2, 1930 he was the son of the late Joseph Sherman Rhodes Sr. and Maezella Profitt Rhodes. He was married to the late Wilma Bryant Rhodes for nearly 70 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army Signal Corps., Retired Postmaster of Frenchburg, KY and the Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church for over 50 years. He was a devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather.
Pastor Rhodes was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, whom he loved. His faith was always on display in his words and in his life. He loved the word of God, and never wavered from truth and sound doctrine in his preaching and teaching. He loved Bethel Baptist Church. He led the church to historic growth during his tenure, including the expansion and construction of the present-day sanctuary, a gymnasium/activities center, the Beulah Land Bible Camp (a cherished vision of Wilma Rhodes), and expanded ministries to broader audiences through missions, radio and television.
He is survived by three sons Timothy Rhodes (Stephanie) of Frenchburg, John Rhodes (Tammy Swartz), David Rhodes (Donna), and one daughter Mary Higgins (Mike) all of Mt. Sterling; Eleven Grandchildren, John D. Rhodes (Breanna) of Frenchburg, James Rhodes (Tiffany) of Elsmere, Allison Rhodes Whaley (Jason) of Jeffersonville, Paul Rhodes (Samantha) of Morehead, Angela Rhodes Warner (Bradley) of Mt. Sterling, Mark Rhodes (Jill) of Flemingsburg, Joseph Rhodes of Winchester, VA, Laura Higgins Wallace (Matthew) of Fort Thomas, Dylan Adams, America Adams of Frenchburg, Joseph Higgins of Mt. Sterling. Eighteen Great-grandchildren Abigail Rhodes, Bella Rhodes, Charlotte Rhodes, Nora Rhodes, Jensyn Rhodes, Jasper Rhodes, Jacey Whaley, Jaxon Whaley, Macyn Whaley, Keightley Whaley, Marlowe Whaley, Nixon Whaley, WillaGrey Whaley, Beaux-David Whaley, Ainsley Rhodes, Declan Rhodes, Baylee Warner, Ryker Warner.
In addition to his parents Buddy was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 70 years Wilma Jean Bryant Rhodes; Brothers James Rhodes, Haddon Rhodes; Sisters Bertie Rhodes Knapp, Josephine Rhodes Reebel, Anna Mae "Jo" Rhodes Allen, and Juanita Faye "Toad" Rhodes Sorrell; One Great-grandchild, Caleb James Rhodes.
Services to be held Saturday November 11 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Frenchburg, KY. Visitation services will be held Friday November 10, at Bethel Baptist Church at 3 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
