Joyce Vice Smathers, 76, of Sharpsburg passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at St. Joseph Hospital Lexington.  She was born February 21, 1947 in Mt. Sterling, KY to the late Marion Vice and Gladys Shields Vice Triplett.   She was a member of Springfield Homemakers, a 4-H Volunteer, a Girl Scout Leader, many years of homecooked meals and feeding the Judy Community at J&M Food Mart.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Smathers of Sharpsburg, KY; son, Steve Smathers (Angie) of Sharpsburg, KY; daughter, Missy Smathers Barnes (Nila) of Sharpsburg, KY; sisters, Coretta Crump of Mt. Sterling, KY, Nancy Hart of Mt. Sterling, KY and Jeanette Orme of Mt. Sterling, KY; and grandchildren, Susan Smathers Bradley (Derek), Stacey Smathers and Nila R. Barnes.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, Billy Brown Vice, Charlie Vice and Harold T. Vice; and sister, Margaret Gray.

Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Monday, March 27, 2023 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors James Allen and Gary Henderson officiating, burial following at Crown Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 5-7 PM, Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel.  Pallbearers will be Danny Willoughby, Scott Smathers, Allie Webb II, Shaun Orme, Stacy Smith, David Sons and Martin Gray.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Nicholas County High School Class of 1965.
