Lanny Garth Trimble, 66, of Frenchburg passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020, one year from his pancreatic cancer diagnosis. He was born November 6, 1953 to Garth Trimble and the late Janet Daugherty. He was a member of Means Baptist Church.
Lanny was a talented basketball player and bow hunter, a skilled auto body builder, avid storyteller, and compassionate youth worker. Not only was Lanny a Menifee County Wildcat record holder for most points scored in a single game with 55 points, but he was also a 1971 Kentucky state elite basketball player as one of the top five scorers for 787 points in 24 games. Later in life, Lanny was a world bow hunting champion with the International Bowhunting Organization (IBO) and was sponsored by both PSE Archery and Mountaineer Archery. In 2019, Lanny received a Certificate of Recognition from the Commonwealth of Kentucky for 20 years of dedicated service and commitment as a youth worker at Frenchburg Group Home. Lanny found his niche working with young men to help them discover their personal, social and educational possibilities. Above all, Lanny will be missed for his quick wit, genuine smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Susan Herbst Trimble of Frenchburg, KY; his father, Garth Trimble of Jeffersonville, KY; two daughters, Amy Trimble of Frenchburg, KY and Jan Karrick (David) of Jeffersonville, KY; three brothers, Gregory Trimble (Joyce) of Irvine, KY, Jeffery Todd Trimble (Denita) of Sudith, KY and Tracy Trimble (Samantha) of Frenchburg, KY; one sister Debbie Bottom (Rick) of Jeffersonville, KY; and one grandchild, Ryan Lanny Thornsbury.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded death by his maternal grandparents, Willie and Mary Lou Trimble; paternal grandparents, Dan Daugherty and Ruby and Robert Brandenburg; a special cousin, Mike Robinson; and a beloved dog, Buster.
A private graveside service will be held at Daugherty Cemetery with Pastor Joey Rogers officiating. Pallbearers will be Gregory Trimble, Jeffery Todd Trimble, Tracy Trimble, Ryan Lanny Thornsbury, John Herbst, Johnny Chaplin, Rick Bottom and David Karrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Isom Clemons, Dale Stiltner, Kevin Cockrell, Randy Cockrell, Gary Cockrell, Chris Cockrell, Jackie Stogsdill, Bob King, David King, Wayne Daugherty, Sonny Fawns, Ralph White, Mitch Adams, Scott Castle, Allen Patrick, Jessie Wells, James Ballard, Walter Ballard, Jr., Carlos Tufono, Denny Gross, Rick Clifford, Joe Peyton and Jim Russ Gross. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Means Baptist Church, 6152 HWY 460 W, Means, KY 40346.
