Mary Elizabeth Denney, 96, died peacefully on January 31, 2022 at Baptist Hospital, Lexington.  She was born in Bourbon County, KY and was the daughter of the late Sam Denney and Mildred Gillespie Denney. Mary was a graduate of Morehead State University and earned a Master's in Music from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.  Mary was a member of First Christian Church.  She was director of vocal music at Maysville High School from 1948-1986.  A proclamation from the city, signed by the Mayor of Maysville in 1991, was awarded for her outstanding work at Maysville High School where her choral groups won the highest statewide awards in choral music year after year.  Mary was an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Reds.  She loved good books, especially poetry and closely followed current events.  Mary is survived by cousins, many friends and former students.  Graveside service will be held in Monticello on February 8, 2022 with her cousin, Dr. Rose Taul officiating.  A memorial service will be held 11 AM, Thursday, March 31, 2022 at First Christian Church of Maysville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Christian Church, 18 E 3 ^rd Street, Maysville, KY 41056.
