Mary Elizabeth Spencer, 89, of Camargo Road, Mt. Sterling passed away peacefully Friday, August 29, 2014 at her residence surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Bath County, Kentucky on April 6, 1925 the daughter of the late Jess and Alice Carmichael Ingram. She was the Matriarch of the award winning, Bluegrass Gospel music group 'The Spencer Family.' She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Mitchell Spencer of Mt. Sterling; five sons, Danny "Greasy" Belcher, Wayne (Vickie) Belcher of Bath County, Chuck (Becky) Belcher of Illinois, Joe Belcher and Tony (Sue) Belcher also of Bath County, three daughters, Shirley Lewis, Carol (Jonathan) Goodwin, and Kathy (Robert) McCoy all of Mt. Sterling;

A step son, Dale Spencer of Winchester, four step daughters, Alice Stigall, Diane (Ronnie) Brooks, Linda (Lanny) Manley and Barbara (Mike) Trent all of Mt. Sterling; and one brother, Gene (Sue) Ingram of Bath County.

25 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, four sisters, two son-n-laws, (William Stigall, Windy Lewis) and one daughter-n-law (Carla Belcher)

Funeral services will be 1 PM, Thursday at the City Life Church of God on 11 N. Queen Street in Mt. Sterling, KY. with Rev. Ed Toler officiating and burial following in the Bashford Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday night at from 5-8 PM at the City Life Church of God. Pallbearers will be Robert McCoy, Jonathan Goodwin, Josh Moore, Michael Otis, Zachary Otis and Nick Thorne. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Belcher, Jamie Belcher, Shaun Belcher, Chris Belcher, Chuck Belcher, Wayne Belcher, Danny "Greasy" Belcher, Joe Belcher, Tony Belcher, Dale Spencer and Adam Belcher.
