Obituary

Naomi Tyra Hollon, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2024.  Now she is where she longed to be, at rest with Jesus.  Born March 9, 1933 in Hollonville in Wolfe County, Kentucky to the late Ebeneser ("EB") and Katherine Vancleve Tyra, she was one of 15 children.  In 1955, she married the love of her life, George Hollon, who tragically preceded her in death in 1985.  Since then, she had been awaiting the time when they would be reunited again.

Naomi and George had four beautiful daughters and their husbands, who survive them: Kathy and John Cora, Judy and Arthur Lain, Nancy Sue and Michael Donaldson, and Georgetta and Keith Gannon.  In addition, they were blessed with many grandchildren: James Bradley (Stephanie) Willoughby, Melody (Jason) Townsend, William A. (Melaine) Willoughby, Sarah Donaldson (Caleb) Garrett, Whitney Donaldson (Josh) Ginter, Joseph (Shelby) Donaldson, Madeline Gannon (Zach Holt), Janet Gannon (Justin) Zometa, and Andrew George Cora; twenty-one great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are two special friends, Karalee Cain and Mary Brown; and a special caregiver, Samantha Elliott.  All of these she loved and touched deeply.

Naomi was also predeceased by her parents, fourteen beloved brothers and sisters, and a special son-in-law, William "Bill" E. Willoughby.

After a tragic car accident, where she lost her beloved George, she was told it was unlikely she would ever walk again.  Because of her belief in the healing power of her Lord and Savior, coupled with her determination and perseverance, she not only walked, but she also gardened (canning, drying, and freezing her foods), farmed, worked in her yard, and did everything she focused on with gusto.  She worked as if working for the Lord, not man, which was displayed by the fact that her hands were rarely ever still.

Throughout her battles with her post-accident injuries, and especially during her later years, Naomi faced adversity with immense courage and a tenacious spirit.  Known by most as Mrs. Hollon, she was a friend to many.  She was a true pillar of strength and resilience, and she selflessly dedicated herself to serving her family.  She was a blessing to all who knew her, and although she may no longer be physically present, her spirit will forever guide and inspire us to keep pressing on.

Her life was a living example for all.  She would not want to be remembered for who she was, but rather who God is and His faithfulness to her throughout her lifetime.  In later years, she loved to serve with her dear friends at Camargo Unity Free Will Baptist Church.

Please join us in celebrating her life on what would be her 91st birthday, 11 AM, Saturday morning, March 9, 2024 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Reed and Raymond Townsend officiating, burial following at Tyra Family Cemetery, Wolfe, County, KY.  Visitation will be held 5-8 PM, Friday, March 8, 2024 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel.  Pallbearers will be Andrew Cora, Jordan Willoughby, Joseph Donaldson, Joshua Ginter, Caleb Garrett, Justin Zometa, Jason Townsend and Michael Garrett.  Honorary pallbearers will be all other grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tyra Family Cemetery/Delmar Tyra, P.O. Box 830, Campton, KY 41301.
