Obituary

Nathan Lee Coker was born on October 7, 1958 in Bowling Green, KY. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Coker, Jr. and Icie Lee (McKinney) Coker, and a brother, Robert Franklin (Stephanie) Coker. He is survived by his partner, Elizabeth Anne Roland, two brothers, George (Kristy) Coker III and William Albert (Anne) Coker, and a twin sister, Nancy Lee (George Jones) Coker. He is also survived by three nephews, Garrett (Tara) Coker, Clay (Mackenzie) Coker, and Daniel (Kelli) Huguenard, and by three nieces, Sarah (Jesse Edwards) Coker, Laura (Josh) Williams, and Lauren Huguenard.

Nathan lived in Bowling Green, KY until the family moved to Mitchellville, TN in 1970. After graduating from Portland High School in 1976, he attended vocational school to become an electrician. For several years he served as an electrician in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Colorado. He later decided to go back to school and received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Western Kentucky University in 1997. He then attended the University of Cincinnati and received his PhD in Chemistry in 2003. After completing a postdoctoral program at UC, he was hired as a tenure track professor at Morehead State University.

It was at MSU in 2009 where Nathan met his match, his partner in crime and life, Elizabeth. There was chemistry between the two from the start. In 2015, Nathan and Elizabeth settled into their current home in Mt. Sterling, KY with their best puppy boy Otis.

Nathan Coker was known by friends, family, and students for his signature sarcastic humor and servant heart. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand, offer up a tool, or fire off a witty comment. He will be deeply missed.

The family will receive friends at the Taul Funeral Home at 109 E. Main St. in Mount Sterling on Monday, April 7 from 3pm-4pm, with service to follow at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please donate to OWL, Inc. (Opportunity for Work & Learning) to honor Nathan's memory.
