Obituary

Owen Anderson Cope, 96, of Middletown, OH passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at The Grand Senior Living Community of Prospect, KY.  He was born March 22, 1926, in Frenchburg, KY, to the late Allen and Eunice Gose Cope.  He was a member of St. Luke United Presbyterian Church, a veteran of United States Army Air Force, and attended the University of Kentucky.   He began his career with Armco Steel Corporation (Middletown Works) in 1948, retiring in 1985 as Superintendent of the Cold Strip Mill.  Soon after, he began working as a consultant for United Lubricants Inc., and continued in this position for a number of years.   He loved fishing, reading, studying history, traveling and golf.

He was survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Ruth Williams Cope of Middletown, OH; four children, Susan Rose (Greg) of LaGrange, KY, Michelle Spitler (Dale) of West Alexandria, OH, Jane Wisman (Cary) of Prospect, KY and John Cope (Stephanie) of Covington, KY; sister, Temple Cope Donaldson of Mt. Sterling, KY brother-in-law, Edgar Williams of Frenchburg, KY; a sister-in-law, Wilma Egelston Cope of Winchester, KY; eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest Ray Cope and Charles Henry Cope; a sister, Eunice Meryl Cope Benson and two brothers-in-law, George Benson and Everett Donaldson.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, April 22, 2022 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Sterling, KY, with Dan Murphy officiating, burial following at Machpelah Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM, Friday, April 22, 2022 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel.  Pallbearers will be grandsons and grand nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke Presbyterian United Church, 280 N Breiel Boulevard, Middletown, OH, 45042.
