Obituary

Ray Johnson, Jr., 86, of Bentbrook Drive, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.  He was born in Sonora, Kentucky on December 2, 1934 the son of Ray and Katherine Skaggs Johnson, Sr.  He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the  Korean War.  He was employed as an Area Conservationist for the USDA Soil Conservation Service and was a member of the Rolling Hill Church of Christ.  He loved UK basketball and was a member of the Optimist and Lion's Clubs.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Adkins Johnson of Mt. Sterling; one son, James Kevin Johnson of Mt. Sterling; a daughter, Kimbrley Renee Barnes (Steve) of Mt. Sterling; two brothers, Ken Johnson (Kimberly) of Jacksonville, FL and Alan Johnson (Helen) of Rineyville, KY; a sister, Vonda Tabb (Cordell) of Cecilia, KY; three grandchildren, Justin Mitchell Johnson, Robert Matthew Johnson and William Fields Johnson and several nieces and nephews that he loved. Additional, he opened his home to exchange students, Emmanuelle Mathieu d'Arc, Alix Cassin Svtre (both of France), and Oliver Behling (Germany) and two young men: Hubert Rojas and Bryan Muehlenkamp.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph, Garland, Vanley and Jesse Johnson; and his sisters, Mary Leigh Goodwin, Edith Mae Henderson and Loretta Taylor.

Funeral services will be at 1 PM, Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Danny Murphy and Steve Crabtree officiating and burial following in the Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Georgetown.  Friends may visit Tuesday from 11 am - 1 pm at the Taul Funeral Home.  Pallbearers will be Matt Johnson, Bryan Muehlenkamp, Jeff Coffey, Philip Tabb, Greg Johnson and Will Johnson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Marty Gillespie, Charles Wills, Mike Donaldson, Bill Roush, Joe Fraiser and Pat Zalone.  In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Rolling Hills Church of Christ Building Fund.
