Ray Tyra, 87, of Jeffersonville, KY passed away Monday, February 19, 2024 in Lexington, KY. He was born June 23, 1936 in Wolfe County to the late Herbert and Josie Tyra. He was passionate in every venture he took on. He was an Army Veteran, career carpenter, and dedicated farmer.

He is preceded in death by his late wife Geneva Drake Tyra and survived by his loving companion of 26 years, Betty Puckett of Jeffersonville, KY; his sons, Billy Ray Tyra (Rita) of Anchorage, AK, Brady  "Woofer" Tyra (Stacy) of Mt. Sterling, KY; daughter, Sharon Renee Sherer (Steve) of Lexington, KY; grandson, Joshua James Tyra of Anchorage, AK; granddaughters, Autum Rae Tyra of Anchorage, AK, Kendra Dainee, and Aimee Rae Sherer of Lexington, KY; as well as granddaughter Amanda Kayee Sherer and great grandchildren Dakota James and Avery Renee Abrams of Mt. Sterling, KY; brothers, Tobe (Faye) Tyra of Jeffersonville, KY, Lee (Ida) Tyra of Mt. Sterling, KY, Glenn (Faye) Tyra of Franklin, OH, and Bill (Kathy) Tyra of Jeffersonville, KY; sisters, Geraldine (Raymond) Townsend of Jeffersonville, KY, Wilma Ratliff of Mt. Sterling, KY, and Linda (the late Jim) Hensley of Mt. Sterling, KY.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Tyra, Ken Tyra, and Tom Tyra.

Visitation will be held 6-8 PM, Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel Mt. Sterling.

Funeral services will be held 11AM, Friday, February 23, 2024 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel Mt. Sterling with Raymond Townsend officiating.  Pallbearers will be Bill Tyra, Brady Tyra, Joshua Tyra, Charlie Tyra, Tiger Tyra, Bobby Tyra, and Nick Ratliff.

Rays final resting place will be in the Tyra Family Cemetery located in Wolfe County, KY.
