Obituary

Richard E. Lewis, 76, of Mt. Sterling passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the VA Lexington Healthcare.  He was born April 4, 1948 in Portsmouth, OH to the late Harold Lewis and Gladys Roush Rose.  He retired as a Grocery Store Manager for Thompson's IGA.  He was a US Army Veteran, a member of American Legion, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Senior Citizens.  He loved country music, collecting model cars and vinyl albums.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rebecca Stanhope Lewis of Mt. Sterling, KY; son, J.D. Congleton (Tina) of Mt. Sterling, KY; sister, Pamela J. Charles (Tony) of Salt Lick, KY; grandchild, Leslie Marie Jones (Derrick); great-grandchildren, Alexis Jones, Bentley Jones and Brody Jones; and nephews, Joey Sorrell and Brian Stanhope; and nieces, Rebecca Thomas, Stacey Rountree and Jordan Cassidy.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a niece, Scarlett Kirby; and brother-in-law, Wreno Stanhope.

Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kelly Poe and Tommy Thompson officiating, burial following at Longview Cemetery.   Visitation will be 11 AM-1 PM, Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel.  Pallbearers will be Billy Riddle, Tony Charles, Danny Carpenter, Keith Crouch, Derrick Jones, JD Congleton and Kenny Woosley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Thompson, Woody Wells, Doyle Duff, Jim Creamins and Bob Collins.
